In one of the hardest-hit cities in the U.S., the staff of ResCare’s WeCARE program in New York City had to “Get Going” and shift over 90% of their operations to a telecommuting model in the span of a week due to COVID-19.

After receiving permission to shift to remote services, WeCARE leadership sprang into action. Teams began to implement components of a business continuity plan they submitted to their program funder only a few days prior.

On March 23, with the help of BrightSpring’s amazing IT staff, over 175 WeCARE employees reported to their assigned offices to pick up their computer equipment and transport it to their homes. Within 24 hours, over 90% of the staff was up and running.

Since that time, the team has actively been reaching out to WeCARE clients affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the month of April, the staff made calls to over 5,813 WeCARE clients. Rudy Racine, Vice President of WeCARE Operations, said, “We wanted to see how clients had been affected by COVID-19 as well as provide them with resources for assistance during this unprecedented time.”

In addition to the wellness calls, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) staff helped over 115 clients with the completion and submission of Federal Disability Benefit Applications.

The wellness team was instrumental in helping over 200 individuals complete wellness plans outlined to assist clients with stabilizing previously unstable health conditions. To top it all off, the employment team contacted over 1,000 Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) clients to promote the use of tools like ResCare Academy® & Talent Market.

The team also developed and facilitated a series of virtual workshops to continue to engage our job seekers and help them come out of this pandemic stronger than when it started.

We would like to give a special thanks to the WeCARE staff and their partners at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY)!  He said, “Without their consistent effort and determination, this huge undertaking would not be possible. The support they provide to our clients, and the impact you each make in your communities is truly remarkable. Thanks for all you do.”
